Features

The open source bimserver is free and open source.  This standard version comes with a lot of cool features.

You can also have a a look at the screenshots.

A glance of the features and opportunities the bimserver can give you.

Base Features:

Import/export IFC - The base of the BIMserver is native IFC. You can upload and download IFC, ifcXML and ifcZIP.
IFC Versioning – Go back in time.  See who made which changes and when. Versioning is on IFC objectlevel.
Change notifications – use the RSS feeds or a special notification system (BIMserver RPC) to get warning of changes you are interested in.
Geolocate models – place your model on a location to create a GIS link (have a look at the export formats).
Multi-user – get as much users as you like!
Smart Authentication – only change your own part of the model but be able to read/see the other parts.

Model Features:

ModelFusion - Merge aspectmodels into a base model.
Merging – Merge changes into a model.
Revision management – Get revisions by sub-projects and main project.
Change finder (compare) - Let the software find changes that were made to the model.
Filter & Query –  Simple queries like “get only the windows from a model” , or “get one specific wall”.
Rules and advanced Query – Using Java code to make advanced queries or rules.
Checkout & update warnings – Get a big warning when model inconsistencies seem to appear.

Interfaces:

Webservice interface – feel free to connect to the SOAP interface.
Webuserinterface – the only thing you need is a webbrowser to connect to the webinterface.
REST - every IFC object in your BIMserver has its own URL. Use these REST links to connect or get detailled information about a specific object.
ProtocolBuffers – User protocol buffers to connect your client application.

Import/Export formats:

Import and Export formats are plugins for BIMserver. Some of the ones that are popular (and open source available):
ifcXML
- Valide ifcXML import and export.
CoBIE - Import and export of COBie models (also simple COBie export).
CityGML - Export your IFC model to CityGML, including the GeoBIM extension.
Collada - Export your IFC to Collada (easy to import in Sketchup).
KML (KMZ) -  view your BIM model in Google Earth, including:
Google Earth network link – get a URL to directly connect from Google Earth.

Extra:

There are plugins and extensions available for:
IFD support
– Fill the properties of an IFD library object.
WebGL viewer – on www.bimsurfer.org
Clash detection – get a list of IFC objects that clash (geometry analysis).

Working on (coming as soon as possible):

Rendering pictures –  Automatically rendering JPG/PNG pictures from every revision of the model.
gbXML export – needs additional funding.
Excel export – needs additional funding.
Single Signon (SSO) – needs additional funding.
OpenID Authentication – needs additional funding.

Hi. Is BIMservers database encrypted? What about user interface? I mean that there should be no possibities to open database without passwords…
Also there should be possibility for job administrator to allow or deny read-write-operations.
